![]() Some days later, I hitched a ride with a friend to get my hair cut in downtown North Bay. I was 13, just beginning my musical journey, but I knew I liked what I was hearing. Without the internet, and it being 1991, no song-identifying app to figure out the artist, this song stuck in my head for days. In 1991, Sportsline played this catchy tune in the background of their hockey highlights, and I loved the raw power and emotion of it. I started watching later in the decade when Mark Hebscher and Jim Tatti had refined the show into a successful two-man team. Sportsline, a cutting-edge show for its time, originated in the mid-1980s with Bob McCown as host. One of my nightly routines before going to bed as a teen was to watch the sports highlights on Global. I first heard the Hip's music without really knowing that I was hearing it. They are inclusive, and there is something for everyone. That is the majesty of the Tragically Hip. I am 38-years-old (but I've kissed a girl). I've felt those personal connections to this band, and to this wordsmith who is unlike any musician I've ever witnessed. Some are crystal clear, some required a trip to the library to search for references pre-internet. Gord Downie's lyrics are open to interpretation. The crowd stood and applauded the band on the screen as the five members embraced at the front of the stage before their hometown crowd. Patrons sang, danced, and cheered on the Hip, especially during the band's three emotional encores. Donations at the door went to the Canadian Cancer Society. ![]() In a more intimate, raucous affair, the Summit Room at the Voyager was filled to capacity on a humid summer night. Concessions were open, but it was unclear where the profits would be directed. Admission was free, and donations were split between the Gord Downie Cancer Fund and Laurentian Ski Hill. Locally, a sparse yet spirited family-friendly crowd attended an official CBC live screening at Memorial Gardens. Downie even alluded to his scarf, worn underneath his shirt collar and according to him, fashioned from two socks. His scalp, no doubt scarred from treatment and surgery for his brain tumour, kept under wraps beneath various feathered fedoras. His outfits, part Max Headroom, part Tin Man shone brightly under the spotlight. Gord Downie spent the evening drenched in sweat, his customary handkerchief never out of reach. "We are all richer for having seen them tonight." While the line originated with Gord Downie and is spoken over the opening of Grace, Too from the Live Between Us album in reference to The Rheostatics, Canadians were left repeating those words, or some variation thereof, as they filed from viewing parties across Canada Saturday evening. It was as if everything the band had done and accomplished had led them to this inevitable point, and they were determined to put on a show that will never be forgotten by those in attendance, and by the millions watching on the CBC. There is no fanboy hyperbole in saying that The Tragically Hip put on the performance of a lifetime Saturday evening in Kingston, Ont. In North Bay, artist Jeff Marceau paid homage to Downie.įind below BayToday's local coverage of the night Downie and the Hip signed off, five years ago today: 'It's a shame to leave this masterpiece' Tens of thousands gathered and watched the concert on screens set up in nearby Springer Market Square.ĬBC estimates at least 11.7 million Canadians watched its broadcast of the concert across television and online platforms. The band's final performance was in Kingston, Ont., in front of a hometown crowd of 6,700 fans lucky enough to have solid connections or win tickets in the lottery to be in attendance at the K-Rock Centre that Saturday night, August 20, 2016. Much has happened in those five years since Canada's favourite band rallied behind singer Gord Downie to complete its Man Machine Poem tour at the behest of the ailing frontman who died just over one year later from brain cancer in October 2017, at the age of 53. Typically these retrospectives elicit one of two reactions: "It's been five years!" Or, "It's been five years?"

![]() I am getting very close to the end now: I have all four Cards, the four Marks, my characters are very strong and equipped with the Exotics, so technically all that is left for me to do is enter Castle Death and face the vile daemon. My journey there was fruitful to say the least since I now hold the Four Cards needed to “kill” Exodus and have maxed out my character’s main stats (I would have done more, but I already went there with the maximum of 9999 Gold per character so…).Īctually I probably made a big mistake by not going to Ambrosia sooner – I had this memory of a dangerous isle full of monsters… but not so much actually and it feels like a breeze compared to the dungeons I’ve done (which would have been easier with maxed out Wizards will all the spells…). No, not the drink you fools, the lost continent! (On a side note this version actually allows to continue playing after the endgame, though I am not sure about the point of it).īut now I really look forward to play Ultima IV… because indeed this is where things truly begins… In any case, playing Ultima III was one fun ride, and the Mac remake is very much the definitive version of the game so I recommend anyone who can to play it. I do believe the idea of not having to face directly the ennemy to destroy it to be brillant, and I am glad this is something that mostly remained in the series till the end, even when facing the Guardian in Ultima IX.Īlso it does feel somewhat dissapointing in retrospect that the machine aspect feel so much retconned out the Britannian history after this game… I mean the body of Exodus you find in Ultima VII is basically a pillar. Even today it is very rare to find a RPG which doesn’t end with a boss fight, so imagine 27 years ago! This probably must have felt anti-climatic to some, but it must also have been mindblowing and very much daring. You know I really got to wonder how people reacted back in 1983 upon reaching Exodus and facing… what is basically a computer and no “boss fight” at all. The most difficult actually remains the castle floors which attacks you before the final “boss” which caused quite a stir amongst my party… since I ended with three death and a last party member close to.īut using her last strength, my worthy wizard managed to insert the mysterious Cards to deactivate the evil machine… It was actually quite of a challenge : while Castle Death doesn’t have that many monsters around, it has fireballs everywhere which can hurt your party a whole lot. While some of these abilities are granted based on the scenarios story beats, others are gained by assigning playing cards before each battle. Weapons such as the old faithful Six Shooters and Long Rifles are complimented by abilities that allow characters to regenerate their health by cannibalising corpses or sticking to shadows. Set in an alternate Old West, there’s supernatural goings on mixed in with the gunslinging action that make for a neat addition to the scenarios. The actual in game combat isn’t as deep or nuanced as something like XCOM, but I enjoyed it – mostly for that very reason. Hard West falls folly to some of these same traits, but I still found myself enjoying my time with it for the most part. Either the combat and story doesn’t do it for me, or the between missions sections get too bogged down in the minutia of character stats that I lose interest. Despite really digging the idea of the turn based tactical genre, I find I never stick with them long. ![]() While the reach may be intimidating in terms of installation, users have found the process to be simple. Its Signal Booster for Office has a range of between 7,000 square feet to 15,000 square feet depending on outdoor weather conditions and distance from a cellular tower. HiBoost has developed the ultimate signal booster for an office environment that's device heavy. For extra support, the booster comes with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty if something goes wrong.Ĭoverage Size: Up to 3,000 square feet | Compatible Carriers: All North American carriers | Compatible Devices: 3G, 4G, 5G The Fusion4Home Kit funnels data through the Whip, out to the Yagi, and back to the cell tower to send a signal out. When you need a strong signal sent out, the design also works in reverse. The booster’s construction collects the outside signal via the Yagi antenna and sends it inside to the Whip. The Fusion4Home Kit was created to be efficient and long-lasting considering its sturdy metal design. To connect and power up the booster, SureCell incorporated a 50-foot RG-6 coax cable and an AC power supply. For example, the outdoor directional Yagi antenna provides hyper-precise signal grabbing, while the indoor Whip antenna transmits the signal inside. The Fusion4Home Kit is equipped with two different antennas for accuracy. ![]() The added square footage will cost you, however, as this booster will set you back anywhere from $400 to $500.
